These crispy mummy pigs in a blanket are a fast, forgiving, and crowd-pleasing Halloween party snack. Featuring cocktail sausages wrapped in flaky puff pastry with pretzel stick bandages, they offer a perfect balance of savory, salty, and crunchy flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 sheets frozen puff pastry (thawed)
  • Cocktail sausages (mini hot dogs/frankfurters, all-beef recommended)
  • Salted pretzel sticks (for bandages and eyes)
  • 1 large egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water or milk (for egg wash)
  • Yellow mustard or Dijon mustard (for adhesion)
  • Sharp cheddar cheese, grated (optional, for stuffing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Thaw puff pastry sheets at room temperature for 30-40 minutes until pliable but cool.
  3. Pat cocktail sausages dry with paper towels. If using cheese, insert a small shred into the center of each sausage.
  4. Roll out pastry sheets into rectangles about 1/8 inch thick and cut into 1-inch wide strips.
  5. Place a sausage at one end of a pastry strip. Brush the end with mustard and wrap the pastry around the sausage, leaving a small section exposed for the face. Twist slightly to create a bandage look.
  6. Cut two small pieces of pretzel stick for eyes and place them on the exposed sausage face, pressing gently to secure with a dot of mustard if needed.
  7. Brush the pastry strips generously with the egg wash, avoiding the pretzel eyes.
  8. Bake for 15-18 minutes, rotating the pan halfway through, until pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  9. Transfer baked mummies to a wire rack and cool for at least 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Ensure sausages are completely dry before wrapping to prevent soggy pastry. Do not wrap the pastry too tightly to allow for expansion. If the pastry browns too quickly, cover loosely with foil. Cool on a wire rack to maintain crispness.
