Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 oz blue cheese, crumbled (preferably Maytag)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup sour cream (use dairy-free if needed)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 packet ranch seasoning mix (about 1 oz)
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1 cup blueberries, fresh and firm
  • 1 cup shredded iceberg lettuce or green cabbage
  • ½ cup black olives, sliced (optional)
  • 1 bag (about 10 oz) tortilla chips or pita chips

Instructions

  1. Prepare the blue cheese layer: In a medium bowl, combine softened cream cheese and sour cream. Blend until smooth and creamy, about 2–3 minutes. Fold in crumbled blue cheese, garlic powder, and black pepper. Add a teaspoon of milk if mixture is too stiff. Set aside.
  2. Mix the creamy ranch layer: In a separate bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sour cream, and ranch seasoning packet until smooth and well combined. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  3. Prepare the fresh toppings: Wash and halve cherry tomatoes, rinse blueberries, slice olives, and shred lettuce or cabbage. Pat dry to avoid excess moisture.
  4. Layer the dip: Spread the blue cheese layer evenly in the serving dish. Carefully spread the creamy ranch mixture over the blue cheese layer.
  5. Add fresh toppings: Arrange shredded lettuce or cabbage in a thin, even layer. Scatter halved cherry tomatoes and blueberries in separate sections to create red and blue colors. Sprinkle sliced black olives over the green layer.
  6. Chill before serving: Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow flavors to meld and layers to set. Minimum 30 minutes if short on time.
  7. Serve with chips: Bring out sturdy tortilla or pita chips for dipping just before serving.

Notes

Softening cream cheese before mixing helps avoid lumps. Crumble blue cheese finely for even texture. Pat fresh veggies dry to prevent sogginess. Use a shallow dish and gentle layering to keep layers distinct. Chill dip for best flavor and texture. For dairy-free version, substitute cream cheese and sour cream with vegan alternatives and use vegan blue cheese or sharp dairy-free cheese substitute. Fresh toppings can be swapped seasonally (e.g., blackberries or pomegranate seeds).
