These spooky orange and black Halloween Jello Shots feature a marbled swirl effect that looks like spiderwebs or smoke. They are easy to make, require minimal active time, and offer a refreshing citrus flavor with a kick of vodka.

  • 1 ounce (28 grams) unflavored gelatin powder
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1 cup (240 ml) cold orange juice
  • 1 cup (240 ml) orange vodka
  • 2 tablespoons simple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons cold orange juice (for black mixture)
  • Gel-based black food coloring
  • Optional: Edible glitter
  • Optional: Gummy worms

Instructions

  1. Pour boiling water into a medium saucepan and sprinkle gelatin powder over the surface. Let it bloom for one minute.
  2. Whisk vigorously for one minute until the gelatin is completely dissolved with no granules left.
  3. Remove saucepan from heat and whisk in cold orange juice and orange vodka until combined.
  4. Pour the orange mixture into a large measuring cup or pitcher for easy pouring.
  5. In a small bowl, mix simple syrup, 2 tablespoons of cold orange juice, and gel-based black food coloring until deep and uniform.
  6. Pour the orange mixture into jello shot cups, filling them about halfway.
  7. Drop a teaspoon of the black mixture onto the surface of the orange jello in each cup.
  8. Use a toothpick or skewer to gently drag through the black drop and into the orange jelly to create swirls.
  9. Refrigerate the cups for at least four hours, or preferably overnight, until firm.
  10. Serve chilled, optionally garnished with edible glitter or served with lids on.

Notes

Ensure the water is boiling to dissolve the gelatin properly. Use gel-based food coloring to avoid thinning the mixture. If using high-proof alcohol, the jello may be softer; stick to standard 80-proof vodka. These can be made up to three days in advance and stored in the fridge. Do not freeze as it alters the texture.
